Valentin Trofin holds a Bachelor Law Degree (1998) and a Master Degree in International Commercial Arbitration (2014), both from Law School of University of Bucharest. He also holds a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (2014).
Valentin Trofin was admitted to the Bucharest Bas Association (1999), The National Association of Authorized Romanian Valuers (2003) and to Romanian National Union of the Insolvency Practitioners (2010).
Valentin Trofin is experienced in corporate transactions and project financing with a focus on construction, real estate development and both commercial & investment arbitration. His continuing legal education includes various participations at trainings, seminars and conferences related both, with FIDIC contracts, including the YPMTP 2012 and with international commercial & investment arbitration.
Valentin Trofin regularly represents companies, both domestic and international, in cross-border transactions, especially in European Union, Turkey, Russian Federation, North Africa and Republic of Moldova.
- He acted as a co-counsel in an acquisition of shares in major telecommunication company having a value in excess of USD 20 million;
- He acted as co-counsel in a sale of a real estate company with a value exceeding EUR 40 million;
He acted as leading counsel in a sale of business in retail industry with a value exceeding EUR 9 million; - He acted as leading counsel for a developer in planning, building and selling a shopping center in Bucharest where the final sale transaction exceeded USD 25 million;
- He acted as leading counsel for different contractors and subcontractors performing building works in almost all office and shopping centers in Bucharest;
- He acted as leading counsel for a developer in planning, project financing, building and selling a landmark residential complex in Bucharest where the final sale transactions exceeded EUR 70 million;
- He acted as leading counsel for a client in relation with a claim in connection with a construction contract where the dispute shall be determined under ICC Rules; the claim was settled just before notice for arbitration to be dispatched;
- Currently is acting as co-counsel in an investment arbitration under the ICSID Rules; The claimant was asking damages in excess of EUR 300 million; the hearing is finished and we are waiting for the award to be drafted.
- He is acting as co-counsel in his second investment arbitration under ICSID Rules;
- He was acting as co-arbitrator in an international commercial arbitration under the ISTAC Rules; the award was rendered in December 2021.
